joppe venema
After publishing a split-tape on Joppe Venema's publishing label Vaneen, Joppe and Anton have been collaborating for several years on various site-specific multi-media installations. Previous collaborative projects have been focusing on the relationship between architecture and nature and how to give space a literal voice. Joppe Venema has been primarily focusing on the electro-magnetic spectrum beyond our human scope and the different forms of knowledge related to this; from scientific, medical, conspiracy theories and spiritual knowledge. There has been a central role in different sets of technologies and how they are being instrumentalized to look beyond our own scope of vision to look inside different interiors and exteriors. His primary interest is in technologies that fall into a grey science.

Symphony 18.98hz (A circuitous detour of decay), 2023
This installation was dedicated to the infra-world, the world that is too low to experience for humans. In the middle of the space an organ made out of sewage pipes found in the basement of De Ateliers (Amsterdam), plays a composition consisting of sonified data of earthquakes, geophonic field recordings of sounds of Amsterdam, heartbeats, electro-magnetic interference and a translation of Bach played for rusty pipe-organs. Some of the sounds are not heard but mostly felt through the vibrations they create. Infra-sound is closely linked to several psychosomatic disorders.
Feeble Core - A Season Of Absence, 2020
The swamp installation titled “A Season Of Absence” (2020) exhibited in a medieval cellar in Antwerp, the work formed a direct symbiotic relationship with the space, where decay and growth arose in unison. In the space, a site specific sound work played, which we created by recording the cellar and its surroundings and playing various materials in the space as instruments. This created a disorienting effect where reality and fiction merged. The theory of architecture and the exhibition as a living organism played a significant role in our thinking. The swamp serves as a metaphor for reflecting on deceleration and interconnectivity but also symbolizes a place not humanity. On the walls Venema installed Eartrumpets which are antique hearing aid devices as a gesture to help the space listen better to itself. We used the space itself but we used the space as an instrument, thinking about the agency of space and the memories that can be stores inside of it. The speakers were hidden behind the walls of the space.
